This week hails back to what once was the single festival weekend of Cabernet Celebrations…
Celebrate, educate and activate your senses with an array of wine experiences and events featuring Coonawarra’s champion variety- Cabernet Sauvignon.
There is every opportunity to taste some exquisite Coonawarra Cabernets in various events across the weekend. The region’s producers and winemakers will come together at an exclusive “meet the maker” tasting event showcasing 10-year-old Coonawarra cabernets alongside current releases – Friday 16th October.
Beyond the tasting bench, immerse yourself in a weekend of exceptional food, wine including sparkling cabernet at sunset at Balnaves of Coonawarra and Majella’s ever popular Paella Fiesta. Venture behind the scenes at DiGiorgio Family Wine, Rymill Coonawarra and Zema Estate.
Looking for something a little different? Spend the day enjoying tipples and tunes aboard the Band on the Bus tour, travelling between three Coonawarra wineries with live music by Lady & The Amp, premium wines and return coach transport from Mount Gambier. Then swap wine tasting for whodunnit at Raidis Estate’s Murder in the Vines dinner, where fine food, exceptional wines and an immersive 1920s mystery promise an evening to remember.
With museum wines, rare back vintages, premium dining experiences, behind-the-scenes tours and exclusive tastings throughout the region, Back to our Roots weekend provides the perfect finale to Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations—an authentic celebration of the people, places and wines that make Coonawarra Australia’s home of Cabernet Sauvignon.
There is no shortage of tastings to be enjoyed all weekend long… so gear up for a jam-packed weekend!

Operating exclusively on Saturday 3RD, Saturday 10TH & Saturday 17TH October
Set off from Mount Gambier OR board in the Penola Township to make a day of it in Coonawarra.
Bus departs 10.00am from The Globe Hotel, Mount Gambier, before commencing it’s hourly loops in Coonawarra Wine Region, departing the Penola Coonawarra Visitor Information Centre at 11am, 12noon, 1pm and 2pm.
The CCC Day pass is valid for unlimited travel throughout the day.
Return trip commences 4pm from wineries.
Tickets from $23.50 per person. Kids U/16 travel free (must be accompanied by Adult Ticket Holder).
Shuttle bus tickets must be purchased ONLINE in advance of boarding.
