Corks out for the Cellar Dwellers Back Vintage Regional Tasting

Want to taste a 15-year-old cellared Coonawarra Riesling? How about a 23-year-old Coonawarra Shiraz or an 8-year-old Sparkling Shiraz? Come along to the inaugural Cellar Dwellers Back Vintage Tasting to savour these limited release wines and more!

For the first time in 17 years, Cellar Dwellers now has its very own regional retrospective tasting event, bringing together a suite of winemakers and producers to showcase their finest aged wines to celebrate the superior ageing ability of Coonawarra wines.

Not dissimilar to the October Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations [Decade]nce event (formerly known as the Regional Retrospective Tasting) which solely features the regions signature variety Cabernet Sauvignon,  the Cellar Dwellers edition is a showcase of a range of Coonawarra varieties and styles ranging from Sparkling Shiraz to Riesling, Merlots to Shiraz, and of course the Coonawarra classic, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Boasting wines dating back to 1998, the wine list for the highly sought after event features up to 30 meticulously cellared wines, between 8 to 23 years of age, from 15 of Coonawarra’s much loved producers.

Coonawarra Vignerons Event & Marketing Officer said the event is a highlight in the 2021 Cellar Dwellers calendar and for good reason. “What is unique and appealing about this event is that it brings together a diverse group of Coonawarra producers, in one location to showcase their wines collectively.  Attendees will be able to taste and discover how the characteristics of red and white wine varieties change and develop over time, with up to 30 wines being poured from 15 Coonawarra Producers”.

“Tickets for the event have been exceptionally popular with dinner package arrangements selling out shortly after release” Ms Eldridge said

Like many of the events being featured during July the intent is for wine enthusiasts to taste and experience how well Coonawarra wines can age.  “Locals and visitors to the region are invited to taste and compare cellared ‘museum’ wines, and to discover how Coonawarra wine, both red and white, develop over the years displaying a true testament to longevity”, commented Ms Eldridge.

Limited spaces remain for the stand-up tasting event which will see wine lovers tasting wines over a 2-hour duration in the Hollick Estates Barrel Hall.  The event is taking place on Friday 9th July with 15 producers featuring up to 30 rare, museum release wines!

Tickets are only $35 per person. Bookings are essential, with only a handful of tickets remaining. The event kicks off at 5:30 pm at Hollick Estates.

The Back Vintage Regional Tasting will be guided by Luke Tocaciu, Director and Winemaker at Patrick of Coonawarra.

A  shuttle bus will be running exclusively on Friday 9th July, to chauffeur attendees from the Penola Township to and from the tasting event. Tickets of the bus are $10pp – Bookings essential, online via the event ticketing link.
