Coonawarra Serves Up Wine for the Ages

Coonawarra “Regional Retrospective Tasting” has long been a feature event in the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations program, bringing together the best the region has to offer in one location, for one night only.

This year the event returns, but with a fresh new venue and name- Cabernet [Decade]nce.

Heidi Eldridge, Coonawarra Vignerons Marketing and Event Officer said the renaming of the event was to put greater emphasis on the age factor of the wines being served, “The event aims to showcase the superior ageing ability of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, with decade old, cellared wines being served alongside its current release counterpart, hence the name!”

PATRICK OF COONAWARRA: Back Vintage Grand Reserve Vertical Tasting

Coonawarra Vignerons Executive Officer, Olivia James highlighted the significance of the contingent of wineries taking part in the event. “The Regional Cabernet [Decade]nce Wine Tasting is a great example of 18 wineries co-presenting and a great opportunity for us to provide an authentic in region tasting.” said Ms Nunn.

The Cabernet [Decade]nce Tasting will be guided by Luke Tocaciu, Director and Winemaker of Patrick of Coonawarra. Collective wineries and their winemakers gather in one location to taste and compare decade old wines with current releases from a large selection of Coonawarra producers.

Like many of the events being featured during October the intent is for people to active and educate their senses with total cabernet immersion. Ms Eldridge said, “Locals and visitors to the region are invited to attend the event for a unique and exclusive opportunity to taste and compare cellared wines with current releases, and to discover how the characteristics of Cabernet change and develop over the years, displaying a true testament to longevity”.

“There will be approximately 40 wines available for tasting, dating back to 2009, and even older. Attendees can also test their knowledge with a blind tasting, and go into the running to win a Coonawarra wine pack.” Ms Eldridge said. A full list of the wine’s being showcased is available to view on the Coonawarra website.

In support of the Pink Up Penola initiative that is currently being celebrated in the community, $5.00 from each event ticket sold will be donated to the McGrath Foundation to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. Attendees are also invited to wear a splash of pink to further show their support.

Tickets are $35 each and available to purchase here or at the door, if not sold out prior.

With spring in full flight, there’s no better time to soak up Coonawarra. Take the time to celebrate, educate + activate your senses from 1 to 31 October 2019. Check out our full CALENDAR OF EVENTS and View the PDF EVENT PROGRAMME.
