Connect with Coonawarra from afar – Virtual Cellar Door Sessions the new norm

Due to necessary closures of winery cellar doors across Australia as a method of reducing the spread of COVID-19, virtual cellar door wine tasting sessions are becoming the new norm.
The outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is having a significant impact on the lives of all Australians and its impacts are being felt right across the country and the world.

Due to the restrictions placed on licensed venues, prohibiting public access, Coonawarra Cellar Doors are no longer able to host in-house tastings or gatherings.

Several Coonawarra wineries, however, are adapting to the current situation and reality of non-contact tastings by offering virtual cellar door sessions, enabling wine enthusiasts to participate in live video wine chats from the comfort of their homes.

Small family-owned winemaking businesses are leading this online trend with Patrick of Coonawarra and Raidis Estate each hosting several wine tasting and chat sessions since the social distancing and Cellar Door Closures came into place.

Natasha Gordon, Brand Manager at Patrick of Coonawarra is behind their online activations. “These live video wine-chats are the perfect solution for those grounding themselves with loved ones, but still wanting a wine fix. People can tune in to listen and chat with our winemaker over a glass or two of wine”.

Not only is Patrick of Coonawarra hosting dedicated, tasting sessions with Winemaker Luke Tocaciu, they are also opening their Cellar Door to the virtual realms, weekdays from 12-5 pm for live video wine-chats from the comfort of your couch (Starting from 23rd March 2020).

“Through these Virtual Cellar Door experiences, we’ll explore new wines, vintages, stories, vintage updates, what we drink when not drinking wine and other Patrick quirks.
No questions or stones need to remain unturned” said Ms Gordon.

Multiple sessions have been scheduled over the coming days/weeks.

The Blok Coonawarra and Koonara have also featured Winemaker tasting sessions in partnership with the recently established “Interact Limestone Coast” Facebook page and its associated Instagram page (@interactlimestonecoast), created with the aim of showcasing the thousands of talented individuals across the Limestone Coast region and in doing so, bringing people together.

For those that want an extra layer of fun, wineries have also been pre-selling taster packs for participants to enjoy whilst taking part in their live tasting sessions.

To keep up to date with details of live virtual events, follow Coonawarra on Facebook or Instagram or visit the Facebook pages of the respective wineries.
