Vinehealth’s Wine Tourism Biosecurity Program – Information Sessions coming to Coonawarra!

Vinehealth’s Wine Tourism Biosecurity Program is being rolled out to Cellar Door, marketing and Tourism operators in Coonawarra during February

Open to all industry colleagues, a number of sessions have been scheduled in Coonawarra next week as follows:

  • Wednesday 21 February- 1pm,  Coonawarra Town Hall

  • Wednesday 21 February- 3pm,  Coonawarra Town Hall

  • Thursday 22 February- 3pm, Zema Estate Cellar Door

Each session is FREE and anticipated to take an hour

What’s it about?

  • The program is funded by Vinehealth and PIRSA, with additional support from SAWIA.
  • Increased tourism to South Australian wine regions creates opportunities for the spread of pests, diseases and weeds on visitors’ shoes, clothing and vehicle tyres. Keeping tourists out of vine rows is the best way to keep vines safe.
  • The program will arm cellar door, marketing and tourism staff with important tools to protect vines from devastating pests such as phylloxera.

The program will include:

  • What are the key biosecurity risks for cellar doors?
  • What should cellar door and tourism staff say to tourists about biosecurity?
  • What simple biosecurity initiatives can cellar doors implement to reduce the risks?
  • What tools can Vinehealth offer to support cellar doors?
  • How can cellar doors make vine health part of the consumer experience?
