Shirazz set to heat things up with a night of Jazz

Melbourne’s premier Jazz Band, Shirazz, is returning for the third consecutive year to Penola on Saturday 7th July, as part of Coonawarra Cellar Dwellers celebrations.

This vibrant band of talented musicians play some of the hottest trad (traditional) jazz around, and are excited to take to the Rymill Hall stage.

Shirazz has plenty of touring experience, having performed all over the eastern states, as well as throughout Victoria. “We love being on the road, it’s great to go to new places and meet new people, and we’ve had some really great tour experiences,” says Matt Dixon, leader and trombonist/vocalist in Shirazz.

Since 2010, Shirazz has been wowing audiences with their exciting and approachable take on traditional jazz music. “Jazz fans love that we’re keeping the style alive, as many traditional musicians are nearing retirement”, says Matt, “but even non-jazz fans find the music accessible and fun … and I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had people tell us that they didn’t think they liked jazz, but they loved whatever it is that we do!”

Shirazz’s lively and rambunctious show at Rymill Hall, Penola, will take in traditional New Orleans material, mixing in reimagined pop hits and their own cheeky originals to deliver their famous infectious live sound. Don’t be surprised to hear Beatles or Michael Jackson tunes alongside King Oliver or Louis Armstrong numbers, with a healthy dose of self-deprecating humour and lively banter between.

Their infectious energy also means the dance floor won’t stay empty for long, so bring your dancing shoes!

This year’s event will see the start time pushed back to 8pm to enable those with commitments during the day to attend. Heidi Eldridge, Marketing and Events Officer of the Coonawarra Vignerons said, “We recognise that many people in the Limestone Coast are busy with sports on Saturdays, so given the extra time to get ready and have a bite to eat, we really hope we can attract a greater audience!”. Subject to demand, Coonawarra Vignerons will coordinate a bus transfer from Mount Gambier and/or Naracoorte. Interested parties are invited to contact the Coonawarra Vignerons office to book their seat.

Coonawarra Wines, cheese and dessert available for purchase on the night for your indulgence!

It is encouraged that cheese platters be pre-ordered when booking tickets.

Tickets are available at a cost of $30 per person.
