South Australian food and wine industries are a vital part of the state’s economy. The wine industry has genuine concerns about the smoke resulting from stubble burning and its impact on fruit close to harvest. The industry wishes to increase landholders awareness of burning around vineyards, to ensure that grapes continue to be of premium quality and value. The recent bushfires have raised additional concerns with local growers, given as many regions are unable to harvest this year due to bushfire smoke taint. For this reason, Wattle Range Council and Coonawarra Vignerons are taking measures to increase awareness of the impact smoke can have to grapes at harvest.
